Description of Problem: I installed their product after checking them out online and seeing that they have a really easy install/backup procedure and that they got really good reviews by a couple of different companies. I was looking for a backup solution so decided to give them a try. Backing up data was fairly quick/easy just as the reviews had said. The computer experienced ''odd'' issues after the installation, however, such as clicking on ''My Computer'' took about 30 -60 seconds to display the drives on my computer. I got sick of this eventually and decided to run anti-virus and anti-spyware scans to see what was the deal. It came up empty so i decided that i needed to reinstall the OS as this normally helps with Windows systems. After the reinstall of the OS and the drivers, the machine was smoking fast again. Thinking i had resolved the issue, i installed Carbonite. Immediately after selecting to restore my files the computer locked up. Frozen solid. i could n''t do anything but move my mouse. I couldn''t click on anything or open any programs...nothing. (3GB Corsair XMS RAM and dual core processor with 10,000RPM drives...) It showed the little screen that told you how many files had been restored on the screen, so i thought that maybe it was just because it was restoring my files that it was locking up so hard, so i decided to wait on it. After a full 24+ hours of restoring, it had only restored about 3,000 files out of 155,000=23GB total) I have a 16-25MB connection through Comcast so i knew it wasn''t my connection. I left it for another full day, expecting that it would speed up...to my chagrin, only a couple more thousand had transferred. My bandwidth was fine, so i knew that it wasn''t a bandwidth or computer speed issue. (couldn''t use my computer for this whole 2 days) I calculated the rate of restore and figured for the 23GB of data to restore would take me 50 days! I''m sorry, i can''t go 50 days without using my computer. At any rate, i thought maybe i would try to reinstall the OS and drivers again as this would be much faster than waiting 50 days. I did so, and same issue. I now called customer support. They told me that they needed the log files from my computer to be able to figure out what the issue was. I told them that the computer locked up during restore (even after using ''low priority'' mode) and that i couldn''t access anything. I couldn''t get help to save my life. (Oh, btw, if you want to call support you have to pay them another $20 for the privilege...even after i had a 3 yr $135/subscription to their service) The customer service rep i spoke with, Daniel, repeatedly told me that i couldn''t speak with a manager. He told me that they were busy helping other customers and that he would have them call me back. He took down my name and number and i had him repeat it back to me. I never received a phone call. I called him back several times trying to get a manager. Same answer, they are all busy. I told him that i would wait and he told me that there was a huge queue behind me and i couldn''t wait. I got off the phone and called back. I didn''t have to wait at all but got right back to Daniel. He told me again the managers were busy. I asked him what happened to the huge queue that was behind me. He told me that they were still there. (Hmmm...wonder how i managed to get through without waiting?) At any rate, i also emailed customer support twice to which they sent an automated response that they would respond within 72 hours. (they did not) I sent an email to Dave the CEO (on their website he says to email him with issues...) and no response. I have yet to receive any kind of help or support from them.
Anyone else who's had a bad experience with Carbonite (or a good one) feel free to post here!
